Helsinki 3D Urban Data Model

Helsinki’s public city model combines terrain and semantic buildings with municipal registers. Visitors can inspect building attributes and explore city geometry. The city documents continuous updates to the urban data model and open data access. This entry covers the base model; the separate Energy and Climate Atlas is listed independently.

Use cases

Urban visualization and planning.

Physical-system connection

No sensor or operational-data connection to the physical system is established by the retained evidence. Geometry, registers, modeled estimates or spatial layers alone do not establish that connection.

Decision workflow

See the documented use cases. A planning or visualization use case alone does not establish a maintained operational data workflow.

Classification basis

The retained evidence establishes a 3D spatial model or map. A connected twin is not established for this specific listing; capabilities of a wider municipal platform are not automatically attributed to its public viewer.

Data update / live data
Continuously maintained city model; no live sensor feed established for this viewer.

Results & limitations

No independently verified performance metrics recorded.

A 3D model does not by itself establish live data, simulation, or an operational feedback loop.

Project presentation

Jarmo Suomisto of the City of Helsinki presents Helsinki’s city-model program, open services and use cases at the 2023 International Forum on Urban Digital Twins. This is a recorded municipal presentation about the Helsinki 3D program, rather than a certification of every function currently available in the public viewer.

Endpoint checks verify link health. They do not certify that every 3D layer, simulation, or data feed works. Public access and lifecycle are assessed separately.
