Most cities we initially selected for the Smart City Map are known for being—or aspiring to become—advanced smart cities.

So far, the great majority have been classified as 2B: cities that use advanced data analytics and AI to predict problems and recommend actions, but where operational decision-making remains predominantly human-led rather than autonomous across multiple urban services.
